  • Buddha is not God.

    Only Jesus Saves.

John 14:6: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Psalm 9:17: The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

Revelation 14:7: Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

Psalm 50:22:Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.

This earthquake and following tsunami and the loss of 77,000 souls is terrible, but God said he will send judgement.  Do you ever wonder why such terrible things happen in countries where they kick God out?  I pray that there are Christians there to continue preaching the gospel, and souls will be saved.

You can be mad at me, but it's not me that said it, GOD said it.

  • First:  I'm a Christian, and you're embarassing the snot out of me.

Regarding the tsunamis:  Interestingly, in one city, the ONLY thing that survived was a Buddhist temple.  Whatcha got to say about that?

And since you proclaim to be a follower of Jesus, why not do what HE did?  He spent time loving and helping people of all faiths (he was a Jew, remember?), not doing THIS crap.

Ugg.  Jesus must be embarassed by you.

  • WOW, sounds like you work for Satan, not GOD. I hope YOUR faith NEVER falters, even for a second. Because that ONE second, is all the devil needs to snatch your soul. Be more forgiving of people like HE is. You know NOTHING about those people that died. How would you feel if someone close to you died, and you were told......its because they didnt believe enough. Think about that day and night. And let it eat at your close minded soul and black heart!!!

  • So, if they were killed/injured because of their lack of faith, what are we to make of things like *this* that happen?? Please, tell us. We *really* want to know.

36 wounded at religious group's New Year's Eve party
    Jan. 1, 2005, N.D.
Thirty-six children were injured in a sledding accident during an all-night New Year’s Eve party hosted by a religious organization.
Police Sgt. Winston Black said more than 100 children ages 12 to 19 attending a Youth for Christ event gathered at a high school around 4 a.m. to slide down a hill using sleds built out of cardboard boxes.
A sign posted on the hill prohibited sledding.
The children and Youth for Christ staff piled eight to 12 passengers on the sleds, then went down the hill in quick succession, Black said. “The sleds struck rocks, a light pole and each other,” he said.
Stenson said parents of the injured children “were gracious.”
“They know that it was an accident,” he said. “I think most of them believe our intent with kids is to love them, help them — help kids grow mentally, physically and spiritually.”

  • What selective reading you do, and what distortion you arrange.

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; who substitute bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and clever in their own sight! (, Isaiah 5:20-21)

For god is not the author of confusion, but of peace. (I Corinthians 14:33)

Here's one you should especially think about before you drink anymore kool-aid:

God did NOT Write the bible, and the only books said to contain anything that was verbatim of JESUS was the four gospel writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John of the New Testament.  Next time you worship, try unplugging your ears, and opening your eyes.

  • Hi Stacey, I am a fellow Christian who also believes that Jesus came to this world to save those who were lost, to bring comfort to those who were suffering, and light to those who were in darkness.

I want to talk about your assertion that this tsunami tragedy was a literal "act of God", there is one technical mistake in your post that needs to be pointed out. You said "Buddha is not God". Well, you're right. And there would not be any Buddhist who would disagree with you. Buddhism is not a religion, and Buddhists do not believe that Buddha was/is God. They believe Buddha was a man of wisdom who traveled through Asia many years ago. I even know Christians who are also Buddhists because they believe in much of the Buddha's philosophy (i.e. They don't eat meat, they try to live with a calm spirit, and they strive for moderation in the things of life). So instead of Buddhism, let's pretend you said "Allah is not God", since Islam is in fact one of the most dominant religions in southeast
    asia.

Now, before I talk about the real problems with your argument I would like to to try a thought experiment to get you into a better frame of mind to understand what I am going to say (and what I will soon quote Jesus as saying). Imagine that it was not the east coast of asia which was struck by such devistation, but rather the eastern united states. Imagine that it was not a nameless family of muslims drowning in the waves, but rather your own family. Now imagine that a random muslim family in asia posted on the internet that this was God's righteous judgement that your family should be killed in the storm because you believe in Jesus rather than Allah. Why would they say this? Because their upbringing, culture, and personal experience has led them to believe completely in the power and judgement of Allah. What would be your response to them be?

I ask you to imagine this scenario firstly to get you to think about this from a different point of view, secondly to soften your heart a bit that these were real living breathing people who died, and lastly to put you in the frame of mind that these people believe what they believe in the same way that you believe what you believe, and to ask yourself what sort of wrath does a loving God really have in mind for the people who "got it wrong" in their beliefs.

Now with all of this in mind, lets look at two facts: first, who actually died in these storms, and second, what does Jesus have to say on this matter. This last point, I believe you will agree, is the most important, so keep reading!

First, the facts of the deaths. I am not privy to all the statistics of the tragedy, but a little research has turned up a few things:

You said: "I pray that there are Christians there to continue preaching the gospel". Do you mean you pray they are still working there or you pray they are still alive? Because many of them aren't.

In reference to the province of Aceh at the tip of Sumatra: "here, the Barnabas Fund reported, its partners said about 150 Christians were killed and 5,000 left homeless."

And this was just in a single provence. I'm sure there were thousands more Christians killed elsewhere. So how shall we interpret this? Either they were not "really" Christians, or this act of God was a statistical attack, and the Christians killed just unfortunate "casualties". And what of all the babies and little children slain? Are you really willing to claim that God killed these children himself, out of wrath for the culture they were born into?

Now let's look at what Jesus has to say:

    Matthew 5:44,45
"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust."

Even without analyzing the context of his message, this is a very powerful and apropriate passage for the tragedy our world has just seen. "For he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust."

What do you know, God sends goodness and hardships upon EVEYRONE in this world. This is how God operates according to Jesus. He loves and provides for everyone, even those who are evil, even those who don't believe in him. Jesus did not say we should bless our enemies and do good to those that hate us because it was his philosophy. He told us to do that in order
to emulate the Father, in order to be like Him. Jesus is not just teaching us what to do in this passage, he is teaching us something about the Character of God, a character that exists in opposition to your claims about him. And this is Jesus talking, not just me.

This tragedy was NOT an example of God deciding to kill a bunch of people who don't believe in him. Not from a logical standpoint, nor from a Biblical one.

Stacey, I think that you are probably a very good person, and that you have a good heart. I believe that the severity of this tragedy is difficult for you to accept, much less assimilate into your belief in an infinitely powerful and loving God. I believe that in order for you to keep such a tragedy from bringing you to tears, you are instead rationalising its occurance. But your approach is wrong. It invalidates the lives of thousands, it paints a picture of a God who lashes out statistically and indescriminately at a statistically "heathen" region, and worst of all, it alienates people everywhere from the message of Jesus. Your message will not scare people into believing in God, but it just might turn people away from Christ, because you are not presenting the same God that Christ loved, the same God who he came here to bring people back into fellowship with.

When Jesus was on earth he did not spoke out against the heathens and the sinners, he drew them to his fold. He only spoke out against the religeous leaders who reveled in their own righteousness and misrepresented the character and desires of God. As Christians it is not our job to cast stones or point out the motes in others' eyes, but to make sure we are living and representing the truth, love, and infinite mercy of God. May His peace be with you.

  • When you say awful things about the tragedies in the east you sound quite hateful. For those who may have listened to your preaching in the past especially I would imagine. And actually if you are a Christian you should be following the golden rule of love thy neighbor...it sounds like you should find a more positive approach to your choice of religion.  These people above are correct in saying that you are very selective in the passages of the bible you quote and instead of asking people of the world of Xanga to pray for those people you have chosen to look down upon them in their time of need. That is a sad thing. I hope that you can one day be more accepting.

    Take care,

    Rae

  • Tornados also snapped through all of the counties in Florida that voted republican in the 2000 election. Does that mean that god hates republicans??

  • Scripture says it rains on the just as well as the unjust.

Also... since you're fond of quoting the Old Testament, I'll give you this:  Proverbs 23:2:  "Put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony."

I'm not being mean -- I'm overweight, too.  I'm just saying, watch the stone-tossing.  Remember what Jesus said to the adulterous woman?

  • Well said, riggsbombay amd aerolyn1. You had the time and patience to intelligently debate (read: shred) her claims, where I didn't. I suppose you learn something from everyone. :)

  • oh, dude.  that's over the line, it really is.

  • *thunderous applause to RiggsBombay and algsor*

Stacey, I hope you listen to these people who have left these words for you.  Where do you get off on saying these people have left God out of their lives, when you have clearly left him out of yours with your words and actions?

  • you're sick. not disgusting, but mentall ill. and I think you need help.

over a hundred thousand people died. mother's lost babies, children lost their parents. it's horrific and it's disturbing and if jesus were here he would weep WEEP for the loss of life, jesus would mourn for each and every death. you on the other hand? you're a monster.

you sit there all self-righteous and full of yourself and gloat over the deaths of so many.

    you need serious help.

  • You're everything that is wrong with this world. I have never wished harm on another human, but I hope you die and if there is a Hell that you rot in it for your inhumanity, intolerance and ignorance. If there is a God and he has wrath to send, it would surely fall on people like you.

  • Enjoy your delusions!

  • ya know, i liked you a lot more when you were "going to hell"

  • I thought you were kidding. I laughed. Then I think I got it that you weren't, and I laughed harder. Why? Because I love to make fun of born again christians more than I like to make fun of President Bush. Kudos.

  • So let me get this straight. You have a public forum where you type your feelings about something you believe in. And in this forum you allow other people to post their views for, but most here are against. But then you delete the ones that 'call you out'. Hey its your little soap box, and I'm glad we live in a country that allows us to have this right. But if your going to post something that will obviously cause negative feed back, shouldn't you, I don't know maybe take it with a grain a salt?

  • Woah... she did delete some responses!

I asked riggsbombay to save his post elsewhere in case it gets deleted from here since it's such an excellent post and also shows how Stacey here is behaving in a most unchristian manner.

  • dont be jealous because i was chatting online with babes all day. besides we both know im training to be a cage fighter.

  • as much as i would like to simply make fun of you for the ridiculous assertions you make and the liberties you take with the word of God i use restraint. you need to read this book, Can Evangelicals Learn from World Religions? by Gerald R. McDermott.

Those people did not die because they weren't christian. Those people died because they are primative and did not have early warning technology. Most of the dead are indonesians who were tribal and indigenous people.

You are a disgrace to christianity.

  • Read this at the NYTimes. Yeah 'nuff said.

  • look i'm not a christian but i am a good person-i dont steal, lie or cheat or insult people's beliefs and/or home country and if your sucks a holy person and all maybe you should be more understanding---it's people like you who made mi stop being a christian-and make mi never want to be a christian again---i cant believe a completly natural disater is being portrayed as a punishment-how can you say that all those people died because they believed in the wrong religion-wow i've never been more proud than now to say that i'm athesist-thank you,

    gabi

  • to everyone who is calling this sister an "embarrasment" should really calm down. I agree that these acts may not be so-called "acts of God" , but let's also remember that Jesus said that these things must come to pass, but fear not for the end is not yet.

However, to call her an embarrasment is to bring shame upon yourself, for Jesus is not ashamed to own us as brethren, yet we call a sister, whom NONE OF YOU DIED FOR, an embarrasment for speaking what she feels is the truth.

I know of one such of you who is deep in sin who calls this one an "embarrasment".

Let's practice what we preach folk. In fact, instead of taunting, let's teach and EDIFY one another as The Lord has commanded.

  • monique is right!  haha.  she's so smart....

  • wow. im not one to jodge, but i dont like this. im christian, and you are kinda embarrassing me.....

  • "Do you ever wonder why such terrible things happen in countries where they kick God out?"

    NO

Terrible things happen ALL THE TIME, to ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE. Sheesh, what a skewed view you have.

  • I was so miffed, I accidentally gave you props. Subtract 2 of those e-props!!

  • May God open your eyes to the truth. Jesus came to love and save all the nations. Not just you, oh arrogant one. I don't understand how you could have so much hate for people that your own God created. He loves them just as much as He loves you. God Bless you sweetheart. You need lots of love.

  • You know, about five or six months ago, i probably would have been with you on this one. But thanks to the help of some of these fine people who have commented (and perhaps a little too harshly), and by the grace of God; He softened my heart and opened my eyes and showed me a world i could have never seen before.

Have you ever seen a tourist in a country he's never been in, with his face planted in a brochure ? of course you haven't!! That would be rediculous. But you know what ? You are that tourist, and so was i ... until i put the brochure down. And then i actually saw and experienced that country. The brochure can only tell you about certain parts of the country, and sure those parts may be wonderful and exciting, but it gives a narrow view of the country. You have your face planted in the Bible so far, that you haven't taken the time to look at and experience the world that it talks about living in. Go... live.... experience the world, It's so much better than merely looking at the brochure.
